Privacy policy & terms of use
This document applies to the MotoLean app for iPhone. In short: MotoLean requires no account, has no server, shows no ads and includes no analytics tool. Your rides stay on your phone.
1. Data controller
MotoLean is published by Sisyphe, as an individual. For any question about your personal data, write to app.sisyphe gmail.com or use the contact form.
2. Data processed
MotoLean collects no data for its publisher: nothing is sent to Sisyphe or to any server of ours. The data below is processed on your iPhone only:
- GPS position (latitude, longitude, speed, heading): read while the app is open to show the map and your speed, and recorded during a ride — including with the screen locked, with iOS's location indicator shown — to draw the route.
- Motion sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer): to measure the bike's lean angle. Only the computed angle is kept, point by point, with the ride.
- Recorded rides: title, date, duration, distance, average and top speed, maximum angles and track (timestamped position, speed and lean).
- Lean-angle calibration (the phone's reference orientation on its mount) and app settings (units, map display, alerts…).
- Destinations you search for, while the route is being calculated: they are not saved in the app.
MotoLean uses no advertising identifier, asks for no name, email or phone number, and includes no third-party SDK for advertising, analytics or crash reporting.
3. Why this data
- Show your position, speed and lean angle live.
- Record your rides and show you their summary: statistics, colored track, corners.
- Search for a destination, calculate a route and spot the corners ahead.
- Show nearby gas stations.
- Alert you when entering and leaving danger zones, based on a database built into the app: detection happens entirely on the device.
4. Legal basis
- Consent: access to your location requires your permission, requested by iOS and revocable at any time.
- Performance of the service you request: ride recording, navigation, ride summary.
5. Recipients of your data
Sisyphe receives none of your data. Some features rely on Apple services, which Apple processes under its own privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy):
- Apple Maps (MapKit), for map tiles: your approximate position determines the map area loaded.
- Apple Maps, for destination search: the text you type is sent as you type to suggest addresses and places.
- Apple Maps, for route calculation: your starting position and the chosen destination are sent.
- Apple Maps, for gas stations: your position is sent to find stations within 5 km, at most once every 2 km ridden.
- Apps or people of your choice, only when you use a ride's “Share” button or GPX export: the text summary or the track file is then sent to them through the iOS share sheet.
The danger-zone database comes from French road-safety open data (data.gouv.fr, Licence Ouverte 2.0) and is built into the app: using it sends nothing.
Your data is never sold or shared for advertising purposes.
6. Transfers outside the European Union
Requests sent to Apple Maps may be processed by Apple outside the European Union, notably in the United States, under the safeguards provided by Apple (European Commission standard contractual clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework). No other data leaves your device.
7. Retention period
Your rides are kept on your iPhone until you delete them: one by one from the Trips tab or a ride's summary, or all at once from Settings → Data → Delete all rides. Uninstalling MotoLean erases all its data, including calibration and settings. If iCloud Backup or another iPhone backup is enabled, this data is included like any other app's, under your sole control.
8. Your rights
- Access and portability: every ride can be exported as a standard GPX file from its summary.
- Erasure: delete one ride, all rides, or uninstall the app.
- Withdrawing consent: turn off location access at any time in iOS settings — see section 12.
Since we hold no data about you, these rights are exercised directly from the app. For any question, write to app.sisyphe gmail.com. If you live in the European Union, you may also lodge a complaint with your country's data protection authority — the CNIL in France (cnil.fr).
9. Security
MotoLean's data is stored in the app's private space on your iPhone, inaccessible to other apps and protected by iOS encryption when the device is locked with a passcode. Exchanges with Apple services use HTTPS.
10. Cookies and trackers
The app uses no cookies, trackers or advertising identifier, and does not track you across apps: no App Tracking Transparency prompt is therefore shown.
This website uses Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd.) to measure its traffic — pages viewed, approximate origin, device type — only if you give your consent in the banner shown on your first visit. Until you accept, or if you refuse, no cookie is set and no data is sent to Google. You can change your choice at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer. This data may be processed by Google in the United States, under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Two separate technical processing operations, not subject to consent, remain: fonts are loaded from Google Fonts servers, which receive your IP address and browser in the process; and the host, OVH SAS (2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France), keeps connection logs (IP address, date, page requested) for security purposes and for a limited time. The contact form sends nothing to this site: it prepares a message in your email app, which you remain free to send or not.
11. Terms of use
- Don't handle your phone while riding. MotoLean is designed to be read at a glance, with the phone on a proper mount; set up the route and settings while stopped.
- Always follow traffic laws and road signs. The information shown by MotoLean is an aid, not an instruction.
- Corner speeds are simplified physics-based estimates (curve radius, dry or wet grip): they ignore camber and the actual state of the road and tires, and are not a guaranteed safe speed.
- The lean angle is measured by the phone's sensors: its accuracy depends on the mount, its rigidity and the calibration.
- Danger zones come from French road-safety public data, which may be incomplete or out of date. In accordance with article L130-11 of the French Highway Code, MotoLean shows zones, never the exact location of an enforcement device. They cover France only.
- Routes are calculated by Apple Maps for a motor vehicle: they may occasionally use a road closed to two-wheelers. Always follow road signs.
- Background recording, GPS and an always-on screen drain the battery: bring a power source for long rides.
- MotoLean is provided as is. Sisyphe cannot be held liable for any accident, offense or damage resulting from the use of the app.
12. Your privacy choices
Every control over what MotoLean uses, in one place:
- Location: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → MotoLean. The app only needs “While Using the App” access; a ride started from the app keeps recording with the screen locked.
- Motion sensors: they are only read while the app is open or a ride is in progress, and only the computed lean angle is kept. They cannot be used to locate you.
- Danger zones, sounds and haptics, gas stations: in the app, Settings tab.
- Deleting your rides: Trips tab (swipe a ride to the left) or Settings → Data → Delete all rides.
- Audience measurement of this website (Google Analytics): “Cookie preferences” link in the footer, at any time.
